I started smoking at the age of 33. Not too smart, you’ll probably say. That could be, but I’ve always exclusively smoked a pipe which means that I have to set aside at least half an hour for myself before I can light up. I choose which pipe I’ll use, the place where I’ll smoke and which type of tobacco. Pipe smoking is the opposite of cigarette smoking: it requires time and dedication. I do the same thing with alcohol. I rarely drink but when I do, I look for interesting wines, whiskeys or other quality distilled drinks. I try to spoil myself. I do the same with food. Over the years, I’ve learned to substitute quality for quantity and know how to take care of the things that I love. This approach is even more important with music, because music is my life. I’ve been playing professionally for 30 years and for the past 20, I have been making CDs as a performer on various labels and have always produced and personally overseen all of my own work.

BARNUM was created out of my vision as a musician, an educator, a composer and an artistic director who still believes that music should be conveyed using the highest quality possible at every step. It’s an artistic and cultural vision that doesn’t reduce music to merely a product. I still believe that CDs and LPs are objects which safeguard treasures. These treasures represent important moments essential to music’s creativity and communicability as an artistic experience.

BARNUM supports only musical projects whose musicians have invested their hearts, heads, souls and sweat and where a loyal audience can relive a magical experience thanks to the use of recording studios of the absolute highest quality chosen for these productions.

BARNUM can be likened to a genuine and passionate winemaker who takes the utmost care with his production chain. With every BARNUM CD (or LP), there will be a password that, when entered into this website, will make it possible to download a true extension of the disc with extra content waiting to be explored.

Ho iniziato a fumare a 33 anni. Uno stupido direte voi. Può essere. Ma fumo da allora esclusivamente la pipa che m’impone di accenderla solo quando ho veramente almeno una mezz’ora da dedicare a me.  Scelgo così il modello di pipa, il luogo, il tipo di tabacco. La pipa ha una logica opposta alla sigaretta. Ha bisogno di tempo e di dedizione. La stessa cosa faccio con l’alcool. Bevo raramente ma quando lo faccio cerco dei vini interessanti, whisky o distillati di qualità. Cerco di viziarmi. Stessa cosa faccio con il cibo. Negli anni ho imparato a sostituire la qualità alla quantità e a sapermi prendere cura delle cose che amo.

Con la musica questo approccio è ancora più importante, perché la musica è la mia vita. Suono professionalmente da 30 anni e realizzo CD da 20 in qualità di musicista per varie etichette, seppure abbia sempre prodotto e curato personalmente tutti i miei lavori.

BARNUM  nasce dunque dalla mia visione di musicista, ma anche di didatta, compositore e direttore artistico che crede ancora che la musica vada veicolata con la miglior qualità possibile e con una visione artistica e culturale che non la riduca a mera merce. Credo ancora nei CD e negli LP come oggetti che custodiscono un tesoro. Il tesoro di un momento importante, fondamentale per la creatività e la comunicabilità della musica come esperienza artistica.

BARNUM  sostiene discograficamente solo progetti musicali, quelli nei quali i musicisti ci hanno messo testa, anima, cuore e sudore e dove il pubblico affezionato può godere di un’esperienza ancora magica grazie all’utilizzo di studi di registrazione di assoluta qualità scelti per queste produzioni.

BARNUN nasce come una sincera e appassionata casa vinicola che cura la propria filiera di produzione. All’interno di ogni CD (o LP) della BARNUM ci sarà una password che inserita in questo sito darà la possibilità di scaricare una vera e propria estensione del disco con contenuti extra tutti da scoprire.
