ABOUT THIS CD

This is not a harp. It’s definitely not the angelic, magic, relaxing harp that usually finds room in our collective imagination. So this is not a harp – it’s my voice, my sound. It’s an instrument that can scratch, swing, groove. Sometimes it’s alienating, yet still smooth and full.

When I conceived this project, I borrowed the title from “The Treachery of Images”, Magritte’s renowned painting with the pipe, turning it into “The Treachery of Sounds” – double bass, drums and harp move in a relentless role-playing game. The album structure is designed as a surrealistic painting: there are eight real, actual objects among four short radical improvisations – music madness – inspired by Magritte’s works, as well as drums played in reverse, plays of effects, and contrasts in timbers and dynamics, opening the doors to a surreal dimension.

Questa non è un’arpa. Non è sicuramente l’arpa angelica, magica e rilassante, che ritroviamo nell’immaginario collettivo. E allora questa non è un’arpa: è la mia voce, il mio suono. È uno strumento che sa graffiare, sa avere ritmo, groove. È straniante ma a volte anche morbida e dal suono rotondo. Pensando a questo trio ho preso in prestito da René Magritte il titolo del dipinto con la celebre pipa, “L’inganno delle immagini”, che diventa qui “L’inganno dei suoni”, dove contrabbasso, batteria e arpa si muovono in un continuo gioco di ruoli intercambiabili. La struttura del disco è concepita come un quadro surrealista: otto oggetti reali e razionali che si trovano in mezzo a quattro pillole di improvvisazione radicale, follie sonore, ispirate alle tele di Magritte; una batteria suonata in reverse, giochi di effetti, contrasti timbrici e dinamici che aprono le porte di una dimensione surreale.
