Eugenia Canale

Piano

With an important background, consisting of a solid and award-winning activity in classical music, rigorous research in Mediterranean folk and a visceral love for Bill Evans, Eugenia Canale is one of the pianists followed with the most interest in the new national jazz scene. Graduated in classical piano and jazz piano at the conservatories of Novara and Milan, she had among her teachers Vincenzo Cerutti, Luca Schieppati, Paolo Alderighi, Mario Rusca, Oscar Del Barba, Dado Moroni. In Italy she has played for some of the most prestigious concert festivals: the Roman Philharmonic Academy, the Government Palace in Trieste, the Royal Palace in Genova, the Alfieri Theater in Turin and many others. She also often performs abroad: she has played in Budapest (old Parliament), Eger (Conservatory), Pecs (University), Marseille, Zagreb, Cologne, Athens, Valletta (Manoel Theater), Amsterdam. In the classical field, she carries out an intense concert activity both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. She has played with important names of the contemporary Italian jazz scene such as Paolo Tomelleri, Max De Aloe, Daniela Spalletta, Riccardo Fioravanti, Francesca Corrias, Marco Castiglioni, Achille Succi, Sonia Spinello, Daniela Savoldi. She is the director of the Maxentia Big Band, for which she personally takes care of the arrangements and offers ever-changing programs, such as the one dedicated to South African jazz and the one on Argentine tango and Brazilian choro. Her artistic maturation is further confirmed by the composition of her quartet, among the most important national and European musicians in their respective instruments: Max De Aloe, Riccardo Fioravanti and Marco CastiglionI, a group with which in March 2023 she publishes for the label “Barnum for Art” her album “Risvegli” (“Awakenings”).
